‘Who Is Tourism For? The Tourism Industry Amid Social Transformations’
XV Jubilee MASEP 2024 Conference
As part of the XV Jubilee MASEP 2024 Conference, a guest session titled ‘Who Is Tourism For? The Tourism Industry Amid Social Transformations’ was held, drawing significant interest from both academics and practitioners in the field.
The session addressed the pressing challenges currently facing the tourism sector. While the industry has demonstrated remarkable resilience in the face of crises such as the COVID-19 pandemic, it now confronts long-term structural changes — most notably, the ageing of society, particularly in Europe. With older adults set to become the primary recipients of tourism services in the coming years, the sector must adapt its strategies to better meet the expectations and needs of this growing demographic, while also recognising their increasing purchasing power.
During the session, distinguished experts in economics and tourism shared their perspectives on these developments, offering valuable insights into the transformations shaping the tourism market and the opportunities that lie ahead.
